HELP! I can’t tightline? Why?

I want to tightline but I can’t! I blink and it tickles and I make a mess! I don’t have a problem with messing with my eyes... I’ve successfully worn contacts for 35 years and use drops and every thing but tightlining eludes me! I’m using a pencil .... Please give me some help?

@muddlepup Hourglass 1.5 mm eyeliner is made for tightlining!  I just used it today 🙂

I used to have the same problem and honestly it just takes practice. Your eyes have to desensitize and get used to you putting eyeliner there. I also suggest using a high quality eyeliner because of the pigment and how long lasting they tend to be! I use Pretty Vulgars on point eyeliner pen it's super good quality! Good luck!

@muddlepupI had problems with this for ages but was stubborn about figuring it out because tightlining (top only) is an essential part of my no-makeup makeup 😂

I finally had consistent success with two things: a softer/"stickier" pencil, and playing with technique. A lot of people find it easier to grab their lashes and pull their top lid out a bit, but for me it's the opposite... I just get really close to the mirror and look up, and go right in with the pencil (so I only use mechanical pencils - don't want any pointy bits!) It usually takes me 5 or 6 back-and-forth strokes on each side... I'm a little blinky/ticklish too so I do a bit, back off, then keep going.

I just switched from Marc Jacobs liners (the best for this, imo) to Nars long-wear (don't dry out as fast if you're not using them every day). Can't speak to what works best on the lower waterline, though... I think lining my bottom line makes my eyes look smaller so I use an off-white or skip it.

Agreed with @fieldsofclover.  I struggled a lot too but just get super close and go at it.  I use the Marc Jacobs and they seem to just work the best for me.  I'll use Pink of Me (Marc Jacobs) or Walk of Shame (24/7 Waterline Eye Pencil) in my lower waterline.
