There's a great makeup book called Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin.  A lot of people swear by the techniques in this book.

There's also Everything Eyes by Bobbi Brown that teaches you about the brushes and techniques to get the perfect eyeshadow look.

And of course, you can definitely find a lot of great instructions, tips, and tutorials on Google!

@RAWRitsRED I was going to suggest that Bobbi Brown book, also.  I bought it years ago and it looked good - haven't read it yet, though!
