Do eyeshadow palettes expire?

Hello beautiful everyone. How long should I keep eyeshadows, eye liners, eye mascaras etc? I have a bad habit of never throwing away any of my eyeshadow palettes. I don’t use them often and never treat myself to anything new. I tend to use old ones. Do they expire? How often do you treat yourself to a new palette? Thanks.

Everything expires eventually, @JoVR. Personally, with powder products like eyeshadow palettes, I keep them until the texture or scent or performance is off. Most of mine have lasted years with no issues. I use pencil liners so they are constantly re-sharpened, I couldn't say how long one lasts because I usually have several in rotation but it's another product I don't pay much attention to expiration dates with. Mascara is a little different. I do try to pay more attention to the expiration dates or how long I've had it open with those, but then usually they are drying up or not performing as well after 6 or so months anyway.

@JoVR @Yes they do expire especially if you don’t clean them and wipe them with alcohol to clean the bacteria build up. I used a palette that was over 2 years old because I never used it but have opened it and my eyes were irritated. I don’t think you need to throw it away exactly when it expires (tells you on the back or bottom of the package) but they don’t keep for years. 

mascara is 3-6 months 

eyeliners are a year 

you can Google search when to toss your makeup for guidelines. I try not to use stuff several years old unless I want to collect it.

Thank you! To clean them and wipe them with alcohol is a brilliant concept so much that I will start to do that! Thanks for the idea @SportyGirly125 and all the info too! I never knew there was expiration date on the bottom so thanks for that too!
