Concealer vs eyeshadow primer : differences?

Hi everyone! I generally use an eyeshadow primer. But I saw on different beauty video that one can also use concealer. What would be the difference between the two? What are the specific desired effect of using each of those product? And if I'd use a concealer as primer for my eyes, would I use the colour of my skin tone or a lighter shade to make the eyeshadow pop?

RE: Concealer vs eyeshadow primer : differences?

Me personally I think concealer is a bit heavy for a shadow base. So I use a pinch of both. I use the concealer for my brows then I use a small MU brush to drag it down to my upper lid. Then I take my nude shadow primer and put a couple dots at the bottom near my lash line. Then I get my concealer sponge & blend then together.

Hi @MlleJuju ,

I have slightly hooded eyes and oily eyelids and every time I have worn concealer it creases. I have to wear primer.

Best Wishes,

Janean

Thank you very much @JaneanBT . Very useful infos! 😊

Concealer vs eyeshadow primer : differences?

It really depends on your eye shape and skin; no matter how well I set my concealer, my eyes are SO hooded that the inner crease of my eye will crease; I only recently figured out that a combination of Nars and my Tatcha is what makes my eyeshadow stick in the inner portion of my eyes. It drove me nuts for a while.

Thanks @quillen ! 😊

Use a eyelid primer and a concealer separately. I use both daily and they both are useful but serve a different purpose.

@MlleJuju this technique doesn’t work for everyone. I know some beauty gurus do this method but you also have to factor in your skin type. If you have oily lids the concealer method may not work for you. With an eyelid primer it’s formulated differently than a concealer and gives the shadow something to grasp to. As for the concealer it’s good at canceling out redness or pigmentation on the lid. If you do use a concealer you would use one that matches your skin tone. It would show the true color of the shadow.  Also, it’s easier to use concealer to do a cut crease for a smooth, quick base to lay color on top of after you already applied shadow.
