Hi,
I’m using this combo to do my under-eye makeup (except the foundation). Not only do I have creases when I wear makeup, but it doesn’t last long.
And then, I’m using the Fenty Beauty foundation for my dry face…
I’m not sure if this combo is working on my skin. What are your thoughts?
@ambarnicole @Have you tried changing the primer out? Adding some beauty oil to your foundation? Or trying Hourglass Veil™ Translucent Setting Powder - Talc Free Translucent ?
I haven't tried, and yes, I want to change some of the products to see if that works 🙌🏼
I haven't used that translucent powder either, but I can try it; thanks for the recommendation!
I also have dry skin and the first thing that comes to mind having used it myself is the Milk primer you are using isn't very hydrating or plumping so that could very well be the culprit. It's also water based, so may not play well with products like the CT corrector that have oil.
I'm also a Fenty fan and find that Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Pro Filt'r Hydrating Primer 1.0 oz/ 30 mL (also available in mini size to try out) has helped my makeup apply so much easier since I've been using it. I've found using a thicker eye cream or balm prior to primer application can help a lot. Using eye masks like Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Hydra-Gel Eye Patches prior to applying your primer can also help plump up and hydrate any dryness as will LANEIGE Bouncy & Firm Eye Brightening Sleeping Mask with Peony + Collagen Complex™ .7 oz / 20 g applied at night.
Depending on how much you like the CT corrector, Anastasia Concealer or Fenty Soft Matte other options might be things like Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Bright Fix Eye Brightener Concealer 09 Peach as a corrector (I've used it for a few years and find it blends well and doesn't crease) or thinking about looking at a less matte option for your foundation (or if you do like the finish, shade match and coverage you're getting with the Fenty considering a setting mist like MAKEUP BY MARIO SurrealSkin™ 16HR Soft Setting Spray 3.38 / 100 mL or Urban Decay All Nighter Waterproof Makeup Setting Spray Standard Size - 4 oz/ 118 mL (I believe they sell a mini of this as well so that's a good way to see if it works for you) and see if using a setting spray rather than the powder helps. I would still powder only in the undereye area and anywhere else you struggle with oiliness to set though and in my experience the powder you're using is great.
Maybe just start with seeing where in the process the products aren't playing together well though. Try it one day without the primer prepping with a thick eye cream instead, swap out the primer another day, or see how it goes another day with just the concealer to trouble shoot and address which product isn't working for you.
I hope some of this helps. The concealer struggle can be real, I know it!
I will check on the products that you mention. Definitely I’ll stop using the milk primer 🥲
@PDXXXX, oooh, I do like that LANEIGE Bouncy & Firm Eye Brightening Sleeping Mask with Peony + Collagen Complex™ .7 oz / 20 g , but I'm still on week one, but hearing another BIC'er mention it gives me hope. I still use an eye cream and then put this on like a seal. I also tried it the other day with reusable eye patches and the under eye was so smooth, the same way I apply moisturizer to my body.
Also, UD makes a hydrating version of the all nighter that might work better for dryness vs OG Urban Decay All Nighter Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Dewy Setting Spray 4 oz / 118 mL (also comes in a mini), have you tried? My BF loves it
@danielledanielle yaas - I love that LANEIGE Bouncy & Firm Plump, Firm & Glow Set line. I'm glad you mentioned you apply an eye cream or sometime patch before you use the eye mask. I will so try that! I'm a month plus in on using it and love the texture so much & wish I could find an eye cream for day that mimicked it.
I have not tried the Urban Decay All Nighter Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Dewy Setting Spray 4 oz / 118 mL ! How are you applying it? Do you use it in lieu of powder? That is really intriguing and I definitely love that it comes in a mini size 🙂
@ambarnicole, what's the other item near the color corrector?
How's your skincare prep? Skincare really helps with your base, so if you're dry skin, you might need to make sure your prepping with more hydration, less emollient or mattifying things. The milk primer isn't hydrating, it's a gripping primer, so it kind of locks things in vs a hydrating primer which usually gives a dewy appearance to skin.
I'm combo, oily, so my prep would look different from yours, but I will list products I like just for reference.
Also...My under eyes can go dry, so at night, I use a heavy eye cream. I'm the am, I use a serum/masks for depuffing and a hydrating eye cream. I have Malar bags, so I don't go heavy on concealer, it's really one-two dots and then I blend out and set with a fluffy brush so there's no heavy layer of powder.
Eye cream:
Trader Joe's Hydrating eye cream
fresh Black Tea Anti-Aging Eye Cream with Retinol-Alternative BT Matrix 0.5 oz / 15 ml
SEPHORA COLLECTION Brightening Eye Cream with Caffeine and Hyaluronic Acid 0.67 oz/ 20mL
Concealer brushes
SEPHORA COLLECTION PRO Concealer Brush #57
Concealer
NATASHA DENONA Hy-Glam Brightening & Hydrating Medium to Full Coverage Crease Proof Serum Concealer
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer with Medium Coverage
Fenty Beauty by Rihanna We're Even Hydrating Longwear Waterproof Concealer
PAT McGRATH LABS Sublime Perfection Concealer
LYS Beauty Triple Fix Brightening Concealer
I generally skip primer nowadays with some of the newer foundations, previously I would use CoverFx, the ordinary . I also remember being told that sometimes a really good moisturizer is all you need, but primers can extend the wear and a good moisturizer just takes it further IMO
Moisturizer:
Dr. Jart+ Vital Hydra Solution™ Water Cream Glow Moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid 1.69 oz / 50 mL
iNNBEAUTY PROJECT Slushy Serum Moisturizer Crush Infused with Bakuchiol
Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Hydra Vizor Mineral SPF 30 Refillable Moisturizer
Thank you so much! When do you use the moisturizer?
Next to the color corrector is a Laura Mercier Translucent Powder
@ambarnicole, So I go cleanser -> toner -> serums -> moisturizer (my AM has SPF) -> primer for makeup. The primer I use is Danessa Myricks Beauty Yummy Skin Mattifying Water Powder Serum with Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid... and only in areas where I experience separation (nose fold, laughlines). For yourself, you could still use the milk primer if you like it, but go heavier on your moisturizer in your dry areas and only use the primer where you need it to grip or last.
Got it! It may help to go lighter on your powder application too, use a fluffy brush as opposed to a puff.
