How can I stop my foundation from looking so dry?

Hi ladies! I’ve been using the Tarte Rain Forest of the Sea foundation as it seems to be really hydrating. The issue I seem to have is my face always looks dry.. I start with the Cetaphil face moisturizer then prime with the Two Faced Hangover 3 in 1 spray. I’ve also tried the Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer and Maybelline Hydrate & Smooth. Seems like whether I use a RT sponge, or brush (brushes seem to make it even worse) I look dry. Please help! Any suggestion? Maybe I’m using the wrong products? I included a picture I just took, not sure if it will show up. I can never get that dewy look!

Try some face oil after the moisturizer and try some K-beauty cushion instead of foundation. Recommend pony effect cushion!

I would suggest exfoliating well at least once a week.  Dead skin can make your skin look dry and dehydrated.  I like Philosophy microdelivery peel.  Great looking foundation starts with great looking skin.

Tatcha spray may help bc it is very hydrating. I mist it on through the makeup application if I’m looking dry or at the end. Just be careful bc it can get greasy looking of over applied.

I agree with the other advice you've gotten. I would try layering hydration and moisture products. The look of dryness is likely because your skin is dehydrated. Water based products, like essences (I recommend Pyunkang Yul Essence or May Coop Raw Sauce), hydrating moisturizers and quick absorbing oils like Squalane. Hope it helps @Rebeccat1994!

Thank you! I have never heard of any of the ones you suggested 🙂 I’ll have to look them up and purchase them!

Re: How can I stop my foundation from looking so dry?

My face used to look like this. I found changing my skin care routine and incorporating a really good moisturizer, serum, and essence made a world of difference in the way my makeup looked.

I use most Tatcha products as far as moisturizers and essence go (am/pm), Hyaluronic Acid from the Ordinary (am & pm), and Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Oil (pm). My skin looks hydrated and luminous. My makeup looks so MUCH better.

Also, changing your brand & type of your foundation brush could help as well.

Hope you find something that works for you!

Thank you so much!! What Tatcha products are your favourites? I’ll have to take advantage of the sale coming up and order your suggestions 🙂

Definitely the cleanser and water cream. (Their moisturizer for really dry skin is great too, just a little too much for my t-zone area.)  I also love their essence. It has changed my skin dramatically and it lasts me a while! Definitely take advantage during the sale.

i recommend adding a facial oil/ serum in your skin care routine i like the ordinary hyaluronic acid 2% + B5 but there are many more. Also look online for the best oil for your skin would be and experiment. For skin prep i recommend the smash box primer oil. to really hydrate and give you that glow before you put on foundation. Try a non drying formula like a tinted moisturizer. If you want more coverage try the it cosmetics cc cream. Do not use silicone in your primers it will give your the dewy look/ the glow you are looking for. I hope this helps!
