Awful undereye creasing

I have quite prominent lines under my eyes and no matter what I do, regardless of what concealer I use, my makeup settles and creases horribly within a few hours of putting makeup on. Any recommendation for powders (loose or pressed) that will help with this?? I don’t want spend too much money but I’m willing to spend quite a bit.

Re: Awful undereye creasing

@cassieclaire  I also have prominent lines under my eyes. Before I get into tips, I'll tell you that ALL concealers crease. I don't care what brands claim to the contrary, and most consumers who claim a concealer is "creaseless" do not have prominent undereye lines. 😄 You might find a certain type of concealer (thick cream vs. thinner liquid vs. the usual liquid consistency) sits better on your skin than others, and that can help. But even then, any concealer will pool into prominent lines and crease unless you make zero facial expressions all day.

A few ways to avoid that:

  • Use a grippy primer under your eyes. Not just a smoothing primer; you want something with grip. Some folks use eyeshadow primer for this. Example: a friend of mine always uses Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (I think she uses the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Anti-Aging Standard Size - 0.33 oz/ 10 mL specifically) under her eyes to hold concealer in place. I don't like to use eyeshadow primer on my undereyes, but this method works well for some people. Be sure to give the primer a couple minutes to set before you apply concealer over it.
  • Remove excess concealer from lines before setting it. After applying concealer, I wait 2-5 minutes and then gently pull my undereye skin down to open up my lines. Then I gently buff out any concealer pooled in there, using my finger or a very small brush, or even a cotton swab.
  • If possible, avoid your lines while applying concealer. I know not everyone can do this and it depends on how and why you use concealer. I usually apply concealer just in my sunken tear troughs, thus avoiding most of my undereye lines (but not the bumpy texture in that area). I'm very strategic about where I place concealer; I very rarely use it on all the skin under my eyes.
  • Increase your undereye skin hydration & moisturization. The more hydrated that skin is, the plumper it'll look and the shallower the lines will appear. This won't prevent product pooling or make lines disappear, of course, but it can help a bit. What skincare product(s) do you currently use under your eyes?

Setting powders: my personal favorite is By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Powder—the loose translucent version. I need just the tiniest amount of powder to set my undereye concealer (I never bake), and it doesn't dry the heck out of my already dry undereye skin. I also have the pressed compact version of this powder, but it doesn't perform as well as the loose version. In fact, no other powder I've tried holds makeup in place as well as By Terry's loose powder. Your results may vary, of course. I do also like Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Refillable Blurring & Setting Powder .
