points to cash, exhanges?

I know that for returns the 500 points to 10 dollars savings is not refundable for returns. so you would only be refunded the price you paid. However what if you're doing exchanges? has anyone tried exchanging purchases where they have applied this discount? I was looking at purchasing the rare beauty foundation but worry on matching myself online and possibly getting a shade that doesn't match. If it were to not match and I went in store to exchange for the right shade, would I have to pay a difference (original price and the price I initially would have paid for)? Would the 500 points to 10 dollar discount get applied in the exchange considering its not just a return?

Return of merchandise purchased with a Beauty Insider Cash Reward will be for the price actually paid after applying the $10 discount.
