play box bonus points

I spoke to one of the employees at my nearest sephora about the bonus points. She said it doesn't mater whether it's a smaller size product or the deluxe version to earn those points. Is that true?

also can it be a sample kit? I have my fingers crossed that buying a a deluxe item isn't the only way to earn points. I love the variety kits and sometimes I really don't need a big jar of the product I want (Glam Glow.)
