online return beyond 60 days. sephora took my returned product without a refund or credit back

I made a purchase of the new Dyson hair striaghtener earlier this year. Because of the virus, shipping proccess was a bit slow and my return shipment was slow as well. I received an email saying since my return was beyond the 60 days policy so they cannot refund me or give me a store credit. Then I email them back accepting this fact and asking for my returned product back. Customer service simply refused my request saying they "may not be credited back or returned to you. I apologize for the inconvenience and we appreciate your understanding." I am fine with following Sephora's return policy, but i dont understand if they cannt proccess the return and refund why cannt they give back my product?

 

Does anyone else have the same situation? what should i do?
