Zero balance

Hi there, I have read similar complaints to mine so I wanted to come on here and see if there is anything that can resolve my issue. I was gifted a Sephora gift card from my mom. It was a new card, or so I thought. It was still in the packaging it comes in so I opened it up and went to use it at my local store and the woman said it had a $0 balance. I believe it was a $80 gift card. I called support and he said that there have been many scammers lately taking the codes after people purchase them. I am so disappointed he said that he could not honor the gift card after being scammed. I still have the card in my wallet just in case someone could help me with this issue. Thank you!
