Zero balance

I have a gift card purchased for $50 and haven't used it at all! I JUST SCRATCHED THE back of it and it's saying zero balance! I'm beyond annoyed. What kind of scam is this sephora? I see all these posts about the same issue. Something not right and I want my money back!
