Used my VIB $20 off reward on wrong item! help please!

I had ordered items on sephora's website and I decided to exchange them in the store today for the Too Faced Gold Chocolate Bar.

 

I brought my one item to exchange (unopened and unused) and my $20 VIB reward coupon that was sent to me in the mail.

 

I searched the store all over looking for the Chocolate Bar palette and could not find it anywhere. All the associates were busy with other shoppers so I decided to try and look for it on every end cap and section. I couldn't find it anywhere. Finally, I went in the Too Faced section and saw a palette hidden in the back of the display that said Chocolate Bar. It was the last one. I was excited so I immediately grabbed the palette and a face mask to bring my total over $50 since the coupon requires the purchase to total $50.

 

I exchanged my item, applied the balance to the two new items, then gave them the coupon for the $20 off. 

 

Well when I got home, I realized it was the WRONG PALETTE! I got the regular chocolate bar palette and not the GOLD chocolate bar. UGH. I was so mad at myself but the store was already closed.

 

So did I just lose my $20 coupon reward since I used it on the wrong one?

 

I don't know what to do so I can get the correct palette? They won't be able to do an even exchange since I no longer have the coupon and it shows it was used already on my account and I cannot use the code again? 

 

PLEASE HELP? What can I do to get the correct Gold chocolate palette but still get my $20 off before the expiration date. I thought abotu explaining my situation to the store but I am worried they will not be able to and I just lost out on $20 off.

 

I know I am an idiot for not checking I had the right one but I was so excited in the store I did not realize 😞

I think you should call the store and speak to a manager to explain your situation and ask if its possible to make the exchange for the price paid for the wrong palette. Most likely it shouldnt be a problem but depends on the manager. Make sure you get a name as well so you know who your looking for or who to refer to when you make the visit. Also plan to visit while the manager is still at the store just to make the process easier. Hope this helps you!

Thank you for the advice! I went to the JCPenney Sephora and explained what happened. They were able to return the items and put that value on a gift card. Then they did a new transaction with the new palette and just scanned a VIB coupon they had at the store. So glad and thankful I didn’t lose the reward! 🙂
