Unsuccessful authorization order status

I never got any email confirming my order was shipped after ordering with 2 day shipping so I checked and saw that my order status said "unsuccessful authorization." I placed the order from overseas but the order was being shipped to an address in the United States. I saw in a previous post that usually you get this status if the payment didn't go through, but the order was confirmed by my credit card company so I don't understand why it wouldn't go through on your end? Please let me know what I should do to ensure that this doesn't happen again.
