Tax calculation?

I've noticed with a couple of recent orders with multiple small items that the total tax is higher than an order of a single item of the same value. I'm wondering how the Sephora website calculates sales tax to cause this difference? I'm used to seeing tax calculated on total price, but it seems like maybe the tax is rounded up from individual items? For instance, six items totaling $25 has tax a few cents higher than a single item of $25. Can someone please explain? I don't want to be consistently overcharged. Thank you!
