TEMPORARY CARD DOES NOT WORK FOR ONLINE ORDERS - DO NOT WASTE THE CREDIT INQUIRY

I am extremely disappointed and frustrating with Sephora's credit card program. I was planning on making a large purchase ($300) and saw the advertisement to apply for the Sephora credit card and you can get 25% off your purchase immediately. So I applied, got approved, and a temporary card and a discount code was added to my cart. Every time I went to check out, I kept getting this error message "For security reasons, we cannot accept your temporary credit card with Sephora for this purchase. Please change your payment method. Your new credit card with Sephora is on the way and you can use it soon." I reached out to customer service to have them place the order but they said they aren't able to and you only get this error message when your shipping address and billing address don't match. I called Comenity and they told me there are no restrictions on my card and that my billing and shipping address do match and then transferred me back to Sephora. Then someone else tried to place my order but wasn't able to. We determined that it was because the temporary card put on the account doesn't include a CVV number and that's why it doesn't work so now I have been forced to wait for the physical card to arrive. It has already been 7 business days and things in my cart are starting to sell out. This has been extremely frustrating, but I'm most upset about the false advertising Sephora is doing on their website. It's tricking customers into getting a credit card they think they'll be able to use right away and that is simply not the case. Sephora should be ashamed of themselves. They shouldn't advertise one thing and then not provide it to their customers. I've been so turned off by this that I don't even want to shop at Sephora anymore and am considering taking legal action. Either work with your credit card company to ensure the temporary cards are actually usable OR remove the language saying the credit card can be used immediately. This is totally wrong and unacceptable.

Get off the app and go to desktop computer. Delete any other saved methods of payment on your account leaving only the temp Sephora card and then checkout. This is how it worked for me. It would not work on the app and kept requesting a security code.

I'm have the same issues. It is a total bait and switch. Wish I never applies for the card. It's been 10 days and still no card, and I can't use the temporary card. Called Sephora, no help, Called the Credit Card Co/Bank, no help.

@JenanigansJen I'm sorry to hear that! Comenity should be able to track the card that was sent to you. I would recommend contacting them directly by calling:

I tried that. TBH it almost seemed like a scam, the person the phone phone didn't seem to know things they should and could not help at all.

@JenanigansJen I would recommend requesting to speak with a supervisor, as they should be able to look into this for you. We do not have insight into their system.

DON’T PROMOTE SOMETHING YOU AREN’T GOING TO ALLOW YOUR CUSTOMERS TO USE

I’m dealing with the exact same issue now. I applied for it on the app, got approved and then decided to go to the store to get the correct shade. Everything I was going to purchase was scanned and Sephora’s own computer asked if I wanted to use the discount for the first purchase with the card and I said yes and then it said error when it came time to running the card THAT IS IN THEIR OWN SYSTEM. I never gave them a card number. The nice employees told me to place a pick up order and that didn’t work. I tried same day shipping and that didn’t work. I tried standard shipping and that didn’t work either. Extremely frustrated is an understatement for how I’m feeling. Don’t allow people to apply for the card online if you’re not going to allow them to use as YOU promote it. I’ve been a Sephora customer for a long time and am disappointed in the customer service from the people behind the scenes. The employees at my local Sephora are always a pleasure and probably will be one of the few reasons why I might consider still shopping there.

Hi @Bizznad I am so sorry to hear about your experience and that you're not able to place your order using your temporary credit card! Your physical card should arrive within 10 business days of being approved and at that time you should be able to submit your order. I understand this is frustrating and I'm truly sorry for this experience and for the wait. I will also share your feedback with the appropriate teams.

it’s nice that you have good customer service skills and that you were being polite to everybody. But the fact that the only answer you have is to wait 10 days for your physical card to come in. The mail is just not acceptable. They should not tell you that you’re able to use that card right away and then you can’t. I have missed out on Black Friday deals and cyber Monday deals. The only reason I applied for this card is because I would be able to use it right away. Any other credit card I’ve ever had you you could use it right away but for some reason, Sephora just can’t get it right. So rather then replying and saying, I apologize, I understand this is an inconvenience, you’ll have to wait 10 days for your physical card. Why don’t you reply with an actual solution. Or they need to fix the false advertisement that is being advertised all over their website before they have lawsuits set up against them. Because you and I both know, that is very possible. Because Sephora is most definitely using FALSE ADVERTISEMENT on their website to lure in more customers with FALSE PROMISES.

Sephora is definitely going to lose customers. Bc This is more than frustrating. It’s bull crap! You have a blessed day. Thank you for your time.

Same exact issue! My wife is so depressed now. She thought we were going to get this sale item and now it isn't possible. 

They should tell you that you can't use the temp card lol. Why issue one???????
