Spending 500 points for $10 discount isn't worth it

It doesn't matter how much you spend with getting the 10 off using 500 points, you won't get any points for what you spent in that order. I've contacted customer support years before about this but no response. So I stopped using the points until I forgot why... Let's say I spend $310 on products during a multipier event and use the 500 points to discount and make it an even $300. I expect to get my points for the $300 I spent(1200), but instead I just get -500. I didn't realize it again until a couple of orders like this and wondering why my points weren't going up after spending so much money.
