Dear Sephora Team,

My name is Maria Alejandra Morales and I am the Development Strategist at Immigrant Defenders Law Center, or ImmDef (immdef.org). ImmDef is a next-generation social justice law firm that defends our immigrant communities against injustices in the immigration system and the largest deportation defense non-profit in California. You may have heard about our Venezuelen client Andry who was abducted and taken to El Salvador with a number of individuals that our federal government unjustly and inhumanely targeted a couple months ago. As a longtime admirer of Sephora and the incredible range of skincare products you offer, I’m reaching out with a heartfelt request on behalf of our organization.

Along with this we are fighting to keep our federal funding for Unaccompanied Children which the administration attacked causing us to forcibly lay off a number of staff members. Our team is working hard every day to ensure no immigrant has to go to court alone, which is expected even for infants as young as 5 months old. Luckily, we have found support from other funding opportunities but unfortunately the loss of funding has impacted on our organization and on top of the layoffs we continue to have to make cuts. 

My job as Development Strategist is to secure funding, grants and partnerships in order to sustainably support the amazing work we do. Not only do I feel responsible to find ways to support our clients, I feel our staff really needs a morale boost as the fight has been extremely difficult and would like to get them a quality gift, but unfortunately our budget does not allow for that this year. 

Our team of 178 dedicated advocates works tirelessly to serve immigrant communities—often in high-stress environments such as courtrooms, detention centers, and during community outreach. Their work is emotionally and physically demanding, and we are always looking for ways to support their well-being. We would be deeply grateful if Sephora would consider donating skincare items to create self-care packages for our staff. A thoughtful gift of high-quality skincare products would not only lift their spirits but also help them feel refreshed, confident, and cared for as they continue carrying out this critical work.

Additionally, we would be honored if Sephora might consider coordinating a fundraising effort—in whatever format feels most aligned with your values—in honor of Andry Hernández Romero. Andry was a gifted makeup artist who found joy and purpose in his craft, and we believe this would be a beautiful way to celebrate what he loved most. His recent deportation under the Alien Enemies Act—despite having no criminal record in the U.S., Venezuela, or anywhere else—is a heartbreaking example of the discrimination and fear faced by so many in the LGBTQ+ and immigrant communities. Through this effort, we hope to not only honor Andry’s legacy but also uplift and support all those who have been wrongfully imprisoned or unjustly targeted. Your partnership in either or both of these efforts would make a powerful difference.
