Sephora ift card scamg

In January 2025, my sister gave my daughter a $75 Sephora gift card for her birthday. My daughter saved it for something special. Last week, we checked the balance and confirmed that it still had $75 available.
 
Yesterday, for her 16th birthday, we went to a Sephora store so she could finally use the gift card. She was extremely excited, but at the register we were told that the balance was $0. She was very disappointed.
 
The store provided a phone number to call. When I spoke with customer service, I was informed that the gift card had been used online three times on January 12th. I was advised to contact my bank and file a complaint. After researching this issue, I found many reports from other customers stating that entering gift card information on the Sephora website can lead to unauthorized use. It is extremely concerning that a company like Sephora appears to have serious cybersecurity issues related to gift card protection.

This situation partially ruined my daughter’s birthday and her excitement about buying something special with her own gift. I believe this is Sephora’s responsibility, and I am requesting a full refund of the $75 gift card balance.

Today I contacted Sephora through the chat, and they informed me that because this is a gift card, I need to contact CashStar, since it is their sister company and they manage gift cards.

 

So I sent an email, and they replied five minutes later saying they are a gift card processing company responsible only for creating and delivering gift cards, and that I needed to contact 1-877-SEPHORA.

 

After that, I chatted with CashStar, and they told me that because the card was physical, they could not do anything and that I needed to contact 1-877-SEPHORA.

 

Then I called 1-877-SEPHORA, pressed 0, and was told that because it is a gift card, they cannot do anything either, and that once the money is loaded onto a gift card, they cannot help.

 

In short, Sephora does not care about the customer. They have had this issue for more than a year and do not want to find a solution because they already receive the money when the gift card is purchased, and they do not care whether you are able to use it or if a scammer steals the balance when you check it on sephora.com.
