Sephora Gift card fraud

I bought my niece a Sephora gift card for her graduation. When she went to the store to spend it, it had $0 balance. She never used it and, in fact, scratched the number open at the counter. Sephora is selling compromised cards and helping thieves defraud customers like my family. I called the number on the card and they told me that it was used online in Florida on June 29th, 2024. We live in British Columbia, Canada. I bought the card on June 24th and my niece only tried to use the card on July 7, 2024. I lost $25 which is nothing compared to all the other comments on this community page. The fact that thousands and thousands of dollars are being lost by loyal customers as documented on Sephora’s own community page while Sephora does nothing to reimburse them or prevent the fraud tells me Sephora does not care about loyal customers. When I phoned their customer service, they told me to go back to the supermarket or my bank. Neither of these places are at fault. They could do nothing for me. Either Sephora is complicit in releasing the card numbers or they have poor tech protection on cards they are selling. Either way, the company is at fault. I’m tempted to call Consumer Matters on one of our tv stations to help us get answers from the company.

Did anything come of this? The exact same thing happened to me. How could they have known this for YEARS and still letting this happen? It's INSANE.
