Returns aren’t being checked properly?

I’ve given Sephora the benefit of the doubt a couple times before when I’ve seen fingerprints on the pans of the products I bought, or if something looks like it was slightly used and returned - Maybe that one employee wasn’t checking well? But I’m not sure how policy works and after asking some forums online it seems that returned items just go to the dump.

 

But it has happened more than 4 times now where I’ve received something FROM ONLINE ORDERS (once in store!), where I have more than a slight suspicion it’s been opened and therefore should not have been accepted back as stock. 

 

I bought the Moschino x Sephora palette on sale for a friend, but when I received it, the first thing was spots on the packaging. I’m thinking that a eyeshadow might have chipped a little, but maybe it can be salvaged. But when I turn it around - you can see that the stickers to keep the plastic in place have been all unpeeled and restock back on, and one of them isn’t sticking on the back anymore.  

 

Every time I’ve told Sephora my items seem to have been touched, their response is if I’m unsatisfied to return it for refund or and exchange. Last time it was so disgusting to see the fingerprints Ofc I returned it, but it was the last limited edition Becca highlighter that I still regret not wiping off the top or trying to deal with it- which shouldn’t have been my problem in the first place.

 

If I return this, there is a most definite lost on my side because I won’t be able to get another palette. I’m not satisfied as I can’t exchange this but I won’t be satisfied with a refund, what can Sephora do for me?
