Redeeming a scent certificate online

I’m trying to redeem a scent certificate online that I bought about a year ago or so. I went through the process of adding the fragrance in my cart and getting to the Checkout section. I have seen it mentioned in these Community Posts to enter the code (found near the bottom left corner of the certificate) in the Promo Code Box on the Checkout Page. I enter the code, click Apply, and I receive the message...


"The coupon XXXXXXXX2807 does not exist. Please check instructions carefully. The promotion code may include letters and numbers."

 

There are no letters and I entered the numbers correctly. Is there something else I am missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It very well could be a certificate that needs to be redeemed at a Sephora store (non-Kohl's/JCPenney, etc.). The year before when I purchased the Cologne Sampler Set, I did need to redeem at a location. I'm driving down to San Diego next Wednesday and need to stop in Bakersfield. I see there are a couple of locations there where I can redeem the certificate.
