Racial Profiling

Today I experienced racial profiling in Sephora at the Hillcrest mall. I’m a woman of brown colour. I’ve been a Rouge for many years but mostly shopped online. Few years ago I went into the same store and experienced profiling but not as bad as today. I located the brand towards the back of the store. Promptly, the security guard I had noticed near the door, came and stood few feet away from me. Within minutes, I was approached by a store associate, asking if I needed help. When the associate came, the security walked away. A few minutes later when I turned with the associate to get an item, I noticed the security a little distance away but still looking at me. I did nothing which could’ve reasonably been considered suspicious and I had a small crossbody bag. There were groups of white and Chinese people browsing and there I was , the only brown person, standing alone with my little bag but because I’m brown I’m most likely to steal? I paid for my items and left. The experience was embarrassing and dehumanizing. I was 100% racially profiled because of my skin tone, by a company which claims to value diversity and inclusion. Possibly my last time ever shopping at Sephora.
