Points deducted

I went into the store for my SEPHORA haul during the promotion, and I was given a few samples by one of the associate. Later that day I looked up my points and found out that 500 points had been deducted for something I didn't even choose. Nor will I even use the product. Why did this happen? I am trying to save my points for things I actually want to try.
