Please allow Sephora Store Credit online

I live in a very small town and the nearest sephora store is 1+hours away. I had an opportunity to return couple items and specifically requested my refund to go on 2 individual Store cards since I have spend thousands of dollars in my lifetime with Sephora, I had no idea that for $68.50 Store Credit it would be this complicated to redeem. I even tried to shop online and redeem it but it won't accept and so I decided to drive 1.5 to 2 hours to, 2 different Sephora locations in Minnesota and each locations told me "sorry, you will have to redeem this card at a stand-alone Sephora". I was in shock but didn't react because the staff is just doing their job...but I'm unhappy that not only I can't redeem my cards online, I can't redeem at Sephora stores that are "inside Kohls"  in my state. My options are limited. Help advise

@Ezahir I'm so sorry for the confusion. Credits issued in our freestanding stores are only redeemable in a freestanding store.
