Placing an Auto Replenish Order

I tried to place an order for an item and selected auto-replenish, but I am unable to checkout with an error message that says I need to add merchandise to be able to check out when it is already on the cart and the total reflects that. I called CS and they cannot solve it, or place auto-replenish orders. I also tried different methods - using the app on my phone, removing and re-adding item, using Chrome, Explorer. I work in tech, so I know what I'm doing. It is just so inconvenient! If this is not possible, why is there an option? Apparently, I am also not the only one.
