Missing samples or free gift

I bought 2 Jo Malone products twice (a total of 4 fragrance items) and both times did not get the Jo Malone samples/free gift. They had the peony sample products but said the items I bought had to be the same scent to receive the same sample of that scent. For example, to get the peony sample, I had to buy a peony scent. She said I couldn’t get the sample because I only bought English Pear scent. That doesn’t make sense to me because the point of a sample was to try to test other scents to see if you like it.
