Microsoft Rewards Gift Card Not Working

Hello. I'm making my annual purchase (when I'm not broke I promise it'll be more often). I earned a $5 gift card through Microsoft Rewards and wanted to use it this time but the checkout function told me the code was invalid. I haven't used it before so I know it's not used up (and it's not supposed to expire, I don't think). Can you help me so I can use this in the future? Thank you.
