In store samples

I walked into a store in NYC that is no longer giving out fragrance samples. They apologized and directed me to a store across the street. That store is not giving out samples either because the high traffic is causing greater shrink. I get it. I just want to show my bf this perfume and ask him if he likes it too before I buy a whole jug. Is there any way to know ahead of time what stores' policies are on this?
