Guft card fraud

Hello, I bought a $50 Sephora gift card for my niece and another for my son's girlfriend for Christmas.  I purchased them at my local grocery store when they were doing a Black Friday promotion.  When both of the girls went to use their Sephora card, the balance was $0.00!  The cards have beens sitting in a drawer and then wrapped under the Christmas tree until yesterday.  How is it possible that they were used when NO ONE had access to them?  Please advise how I can get my $100 back or functioning gift cards with the full balances that I paid for please.  I have all of the receipts from the day of purchase if you need documentation.  Thank you.
