Gift cards

Just got a gift card for Xmas not able to use it at the store or online. Called CS they said I need a receipt. I know it’s only been two weeks since Christmas but no one is keeping the receipt once they buy the card and give it as a gift. The person who gave it to me said she gave like 10 gift cards to people various ones. I’m the only one who asked her about a receipt. Which is rude. This is a lot for a gift cards. I just don’t want her to have wasted her hard earned money. She does have the proof she spent the money at that store but it’s not itemized. Anyway anyone know what I should do? I find it hard to believe Sephora wants the little money off the gift card but who knows how many people have just given up on it and they just keep the cash. It’s scammy. Idk what to do. Any suggestions?
