Gift card scam

I have had the most frustrating customer (non)service with Sephora today.  I’m so frustrated I need to have a place to voice Sephora’s terrible customer service.  We received a $50 gift card and tried to use it today online.  When it came time to pay, I saw that two PIN numbers were missing (??). We had just scratched it off today pretty gently so that was weird. I called customer service and only thing she said could possibly solve my issue was to go into a store and hope they can use it to order my stuff online (my product was online purchase only). So I physically go to the store only to be told the gift card was “$0” balance….WTH?  They looked at me as if I was trying to scam THEM and told me to go to a sephora scam website to see what purchases were made on the gift card.  When I tried to go on the website it just got an error message.  Bogus website.  So I called customer service again and explained everything (again) and the girl told me only thing I can do is go back to the person that gave the card to us and tell them to complain to their bank (??). Seriously? How awkward is it to have to go back to the person who gifted you and tell them their gift doesn’t work and ask them to take time out of their schedule to figure this out when it is Sephora’s fault for allowing the gift cards to continue to be sold.  Terrible to put your customers through all this when it’s not their fault.  All the while Sephora continues to make money from these bogus cards while innocent customers lose their money.  It’s insane and frustrating.  The most difficult thing about today was how I was treated by the Sephora staff and customer service….like I was lying to THEM.  So degrading and dehumanizing.  And naturally I expressed my frustration with this whole process to customer service and they hung up on me.  Twice.  Never again Sephora.  Stick with ulta or nordstroms for beauty products.  There just isn’t any benefit to sticking with Sephora.  Just headache and frustration.
