Gift card only has 14 numbers

I tried to use my Sephora gift card in store. The Sephora cashier said it wasn't working so she scratched off the film in the back to expose the 16 digit number and PIN number. In doing so, she scratched too hard as the last two numbers disappeared. She made several attempts to get it to work with the cash register while also telling me that the last two numbers were scratched off and also called over her supervisor, to no avail. They both just left it as "sorry, it's not working," and handed it back to me. What am I supposed to do with it? It was brand new, never used, and I wasn't the one who scratched off the last two numbers.
