Gift card number peeled off.

I bought my daughter a $25 gift card and when the sales rep peeled the sticker off to reveal the card number part of it was missing or peeled off. It was at a khols pop up so she told us we would need to go to a larger store in the mall.  We went today and they could not swipe the card and told me to call the number on the back.  I did and that rep told me he couldn’t help and he’d transfer me to the department who could.  That department tried to transfer me back to the number on the back of the card.  They basically told me I’m out of luck.  This is not right.  Any advice is appreciated.

Oh no! That had happened to me a few years ago. My MIL bought a Sephora GC for me and the numbers weren’t on the card. They told me I was out of luck. 
I also had a $50 GC thrown away with half the balance on it by a Sephora employee and they wouldn’t retrieve it for me. Somehow she charged me half for the $60 worth of product I bought. I felt very stupid for not saying something at the time, because I thought maybe they wrote $50 and it was really a $25

but her receipt showed she paid $50 for it.
