Gift card missing 5 digits from pin

I purchased a Sephora gift card yesterday 10-4-2024 from CVS, got home to use it online for my Sephora products...the gift card's pin number has only 3 digits instead of the 8 digit pin. It's obvious that someone scratched off the last 5 digits. I called Sephora customer service and was told they can do nothing to help, and that I need to go to my bank to request a cash refund. So upsetting! I guess I won't be purchasing Sephora gift cards any more. The gift cards should be more protected from scammers!!
