Gift card fraud - class action lawsuit

I received a $100 gift card, purchased 5/9/24 from a Sephora store in SF, CA - still have the receipt.

Went to use it yesterday: $0 balance

Went to the store, they told me to call the gift card balance number. They told me it was used 3x on 5/14 - $20, $60, $20

Gift card balance line told me to call customer service.

Customer services says to file a dispute with my bank - why should the bank be responsible?

Look online and you will see hundreds of people affected.

As far as I am concerned, Sephora is complicit in this.

I will be looking into a class action lawsuit - please let me know if you are interested in helping out.

My daughter received a gift card for $40 and when she tried using it there was 0 dollars balance.

I too believe Sephora is involved in this scam and this is an inside job. I am willing to help for a class action lawsuit. At worst they don't even take responsibility for this nonsense.

Did you have any luck with the lawsuit? I also lost $50 on a physical gift card. The number and pin were not scratched off until I went into the store to redeem, and then it was empty. Would be interested in joining any effort to hold Sephora responsible for a scam they are aware of but taking no measures to stop.

I will join you too! just had the exact same thing happen to me today too in Michigan. so frustrating! it’s 2025 these things should not be happening and they should have a way to keep their gift card numbers more secure and hold some accountability for that!

Same exact thing happened to me.  This is unacceptable and sephora needs to be help accountable.  There are WAY too many of these posts.  Have you looked into a law suit?

Definitely need to be a part of this class action lawsuit.   My parents are on a fixed income and gifted me with a $100 gift card from Sephora for Christmas 2024. Was told by cashier card was used on November 29 for an online purchase.   My parents and I never used this card.  It was hidden in a safe place until I received it from them on Christmas Day 2024. Went to use it tonight at Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga and cashier told me card had zero balance.  So very upset my parents spent their fixed income money just to have it stolen from them.  Count me in!  They are interested in participating in class action lawsuit, also.

I’m in too, daughter was just scammed out of $70. Won’t buy gift cards from them again and refuse to shop there anymore. They could care less as well. Stay away from purchasing gift cards from them at very least.

would love to be part of the suit. I received a purchased GIFTcard for my birthday bought 10/20/24 and Sephora says balance was used 10/28/24. Its impossible. I keep my gift cards in the same box until im ready to treat myself. In this case im very dry an feeling washed out, I have a hand full of sampled lip colors just to get to the register and not get them. I literally tore open the gift card packaging and handed the gift card to the employee to swipe. it needed to be scratched, the employee borrowed my coin to scratch it, no balance. I have the gift card receipt in hand. all of my research the cards are used within a week or so time.. SO SKETCHY. im so upset!!! I never go here cause I don't splurge..

As soon as you get any information please pass it to me. I spent a lot of my hard earned money on the gift cards only to find out later someone scammed me and it’s my lost.

This exact situation happened to me 2 years ago with a $100 giftcard I received for my birthday. I went into use it, and it was empty. I called customer service and they made me explain my story multiple times to different people over 2 hours. Eventually I spoke to a manager who said that my card had been used in Vancouver (I'm in Toronto) and he said the only way that could of happened is if I went there and tried to fraudulently use it twice. I was in shock. I explained I have the receipt, and the gift card was just purchased a few days ago by my sister for my birthday. I'm sure they have cameras?  Our family had been loyal #Sephora customers for many years and we all felt disappointed and betrayed. I will never shop there again. This has to be an inside job and they are knowingly letting someone on their staff scam customers.

Same thing happened to me in March! My gc was wiped clean the second the associate swiped the card at the store. Literally the same second! And they wouldn’t do anything! They just brushed me off!🤬

Went back to the store to attempt to get the gift card that was paid for 

they were totally useless

Said they would call on monday (yesterday) - no call was received

customer service said they would email me back in 1-2 business days - no response after 2 business days

everyone should be aware of this

Stealing money from the people. I say it’s an inside job. It’s our lost their gain. Boycott Sephora. Don’t buy from them.

Same thing happened to me. 
Sephora is doing nothing to help us. Let’s report them to the FTC and to the BBB … we don’t deserve to be cheated!
I am all in for a class action lawsuit. 
And let’s take this to Twitter. We’ll make them take responsibility.

good idea to report to BBB and FTC. I will do that, as well.

also, I spoke with an attorney’s office yesterday. They will get back to me next week. This is a class action waiting to happen.

Go to every social media outlet & complain. 
they are sell gifts cards & are aware of the scam.
