Gift card does not have 16 digits to use online

Purchased two gift cards from a CVS. When scratched to reveal code, each one only has 12 digits. They both have the 8 digit pin, but not enough numbers to use online. Called and they were of no help, claiming it would work in a store which we do not have access to. Just want working gift cards. I have receipt showing they should be activated. What can I do to get this resolved?

My gift card was the same. I called and they said the same thing. They are scamming people. Then I they said if I have a receipt for a gift??? Yes let me go fing out which of the 10 co workers who pitched in paid for it??? Customer service is useless and a scam.
