Gift card activation

How do I activate a gift card without going in store. Why do I have to activate a gift card and how come there is no mention anywhere that I need to activate it first?

My apologies, ... I thought of a different question I had read prior to yours, and assumed I was answering that one. Without going in-store, I am not sure how that would work. However, there is no activation process.

My daughter literally just left a Sephora store. I had gave her a Sephora gift card for mothers day. She went to use it and it kept declining. The store associate asked her if I had activated it. I didn't think that the gift card even had an activation process, and I said that I was certain that it activated upon purchase. I googled and came across this thread. As I assumed, there is no activation process, and one would assume that a store associate would know this.

My daughter called the 1-800 card number that was on the back and checked her balance. The balance was stated as being on the card. She asked the lady to manually input the numbers, and low and behold, it worked.

Allegedly scanning the card declines it. If they are not manually entering the numbers, it will decline.

The store associate did not want to do it, but my daughter wasn't leaving until she tried, lol.

If you purchased an eGift Card or a Sephora Collection Gift Card at one of our Sephora stores or on our website, you do not need to activate it! I will send you a PM to further assist.
