Gift Card Scam

I purchased a $50 gift card for a friend and she said tht when she tried using the gift card, the balance was $0! 
This is so embarrassing and disappointing as someone who loves Sephora and wanted my friend to enjoy Sephora as well.

Called the customer service Gift Card Scam line, but both representatives said there’s nothing they can do!! They told me the gift card was used online on a date that I haven’t even given the card to my friend yet!!

What can I do?? This is so stressful
