Gift Card Scam/Fraud/Help, Please

I received a Sephora gift card for Xmas 2025. When I used it this February 2026 I was told at a physical store the balance was $0. This appears to be fraudulent use of card.

 

There are many reports of this happening to others in this community group. I called the gift card number and was told it had been used twice at the end of December at a Florida location. I was told to go back to the person who gifted me the card so they could file a dispute with their credit card company. The Sephora agent at the gift card number offered no further help as to who used the card---which seemed strange. I hadn't used the card before and scratched the number off in front of the clerk. In fact, when I did this, it appeared someone had written over the printed number to make it clearer. When I gave the number, the gift card staffer saw the number go through but said balance was 0.

 

Given so many experiencing this, Sephora could find a better way to compensate those holding gift cards. Customers beware.
