Gift Card Not Working

I just got a brand new Sephora gift card for christmas, and I found some products that I wanted to buy with it and when I went to check out, I put in the # and pin # of the BRAND new gift card in, but it says the balance on the card is $0.00!! Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know what to do to fix it?
