Gift Card Issue

I have a gift card I received as a gift. I'm not sure when I received it as I don't shop at Sephora often, but it hadn't been scratched off so I know it's never been used. I just checked the balance and it says the balance is $17.96, which I know isn't right. Is there any way to see the gift card history or find out why the balance is so low?
