GIFT CARD SCAM

Beware when buying third party gift cards for Sephora! I received two gift cards for Sephora for Christmas with 50$ each on them. I tried to use them online and it said they were “having issues with the gift card system”. Instead, I went in person. When the worker tried to swipe the card, it said there was a 0$ balance. I also tried the second card and same thing happened. She tried multiple times and it wasn’t working. She suggested I call the number on the back to activate it (1-888-860-7897). I spoke to someone and they couldn’t help me at all, basically said it’s not their fault because it was purchased through a third party. She said our options were to find the receipt and go to the store we purchased it at and tell them there’s a 0$ balance or to contact our bank to try and get our money back. While I understand it’s not necessarily the company’s fault, it’s frustrating that they cannot do anything to help. These were received as gifts for christmas and I can’t even use them. They do not offer you any sort of compensation or options, quite ridiculous for loyal customers when makeup is already crazy expensive. I told the worker maybe they need to look into better securing the third party cards as a company since this is something THEY offer for THEIR store… She just brushed it oft and reiterated that they can’t do anything to help. Definitely lost a customer here - just wanted to make this post and say to beware because many others have had the same issue happen. Do better.
