Fraudulent Zero Balance on Activated Gift Card

I am writing to formally dispute a zero-balance issue on a Sephora gift card, which appears to be the result of tampering or fraud.

The gift card was purchased and activated at Walgreens on April 21, 2026. When I attempted to use it on May 23, 2026, the balance showed $0. I opened a case with Walgreens, and they have officially confirmed that the card was successfully activated for the full amount shown on the receipt. They have instructed me to resolve this directly with Sephora.

This is the second time I have experienced this issue; a $100 Sephora card I received two years ago suffered the exact same fate. Given recent NBC News reports highlighting widespread gift card scams in which hackers compromise PINs or physically tamper with cards before purchase, I cannot let this matter go.

 

Because Walgreens has verified the successful activation on their end, the issue lies within Sephora's ecosystem or the card's security. I request that Sephora investigate this transaction and restore the funds immediately.
