Forum technical question: followers/following

What exactly does "following" someone do? There's no explanation that I can find, so I followed someone to test, but it doesn't seem to have actually done anything besides increasing the follow number.

(And, is it intentional that I can't tell who's following me?)

Sorry for the confusion! When you "follow" another user, you are subscribing to their posts. Notifications are sent when that user creates new content to the community!

I think my notifications might be malfunctioning, then? I've been following someone for a week; looking at their "All Posts" feed indicates that they've definitely posted several hundred times since then, but I haven't gotten a single notification regarding them?

Mine must also be malfunctioning, I don’t get any notifications either.
