Expired(?) Lip Balm

I bought the Biossance Squalane+ Rose Vegan Lip Balm 0.51 oz/ 15 mL and it was fine when I tried it. I was happy. After that I was trying to use up my old lip balm so I didn't use this one much. Around 2.5 months later I used the lip balm and noticed that the consistency had changed entirely and it had an awful bitter taste. The shelf life of the lip balm is supposed to be 12 months but mine seemed to have expired within 3 months. Unfortunately because of the 60 day return/exchange policy, I was unable to return or exchange for a good product. Now I'm wondering what I can do, since it seems like I was given a product that was almost expired but it went bad after the 60 days period. I've had it for a few months now and the product is basically unused.
