Exchange sale item

I purchased a Buxom lip cream when it was on sale for $10 last month...I don’t love the color so I tried to exchange it for a different shade at my local JCPenney Sephora...and was told I would have to pay the $10 difference since they are no longer on sale. Is this correct? It was the exact same product...just in a different color!

Same exact thing happened to me! I bought a foundation during the VIB sale and just wanted a different shade! The product was not used and i had a receipt. The lady told me i had to pay the $7 difference. This made no sense to me since i am literally just swapping it out for a different shade!
