Do not purchase GIFT CARDS even from store

My parents bought me a gift card for Christmas on December 12 at the Square One store in Misissauga from the cash register and now that I want to use it, it has zero balance. Now the $250 are gone! I understand if this had happened because they bought it from a third party store, but they went to the store and the sales clerk grabed the card from behind the counter. Now costumer service won't take responsibility.

Either the systemic fraud is coming forn inside Sephora or sales training is subpar. Either way, they won't do anything about it.

My parents bought it with their debit card in person, so the bank is not taking responsibility either.

Find other ways to gift their products if that is indeed what you want to do. Just know that buying a card from the store from behind the counter will not protect you from losing your money.

I went to Sephora 2 days ago to use a $50 gift card I had received for my birthday last year. (Yes, I’d held onto it for a year. I’m a toddler mom. 😮💨) The gift card was empty but still had the sticker covering the number and PIN code. It had never been used!  I’m so upset and don’t understand how this has happened. I’ve read in the Sephora forum and Reddit that this is very common with Sephora gift cards. Like…what?!!

Yes, same happened to me.

 

Card purchased December 12 and given to me December 25.

 

Now they tell me it was used December 23 at 5pm. They know that, but can't see who used it?

 

I scratched the card February 3 and to be honest, i wasn't going to use it until my birthday in September, but with the whole Canadian/US tariff war going on, my parents encouraged me to use it up now.

 

Sephora has a terrible way of selling them, tracking them, resolving this issue. Very dissapointing.

We have gone to the store, called costumer service and nobody has taken responsibility for the internal scam. Unless you have the power to issue a $250 credit on my account, i don't think there is any point. 

 

I am just trying warn people not to buy physical gift cards.
