Do NOT return online items via mail; it's a scam!

I purchased something online on Dec 5, 2019. I received it in the mail around Dec 11, 2019. I returned it by mail on Dec 28, 2019 (even my receipt from USPS says that date). Thus, I returned it WITHIN 30 days, so you would think I would receive my original method of payment right? WRONG. It took Sephora THREE WEEKS to receive and process my return. They said they received the items on January 17, 2020 and claimed that now my returned item falls out of the 30 day return window, so they gave me store credit. This is UNFAIR and a SCAM. If I had known it would take Sephora 3 weeks to receive and process the item, I would have just driven the store to return it on Dec 28, 2019 to receive my original payment method.

I would like to warn you. DO NOT RETURN ONLINE ITEMS VIA MAIL. It takes you about 1 week to receive the item and takes them 3 weeks to process; therefore, your item will fall outside of the 30 day window. In order to receive your original payment method when you return something through the mail, you would have to ship it back almost immediately upon receiving it. That's nearly impossible! You're better off driving to the store to return it. Sephora should state on their website it takes 3 weeks to receive an item so that we know to just return it in store. Otherwise, they will claim your item falls outside of the 30 day window. This is a scam.

I called customer service, and although they are trying to see if I can get the original payment method back, they said most likely I will get store credit. I barely shop at Sephora. They unfairly took my money. I hope they don't unfairly take your money either. Again, DO NOT RETURN ONLINE ITEMS VIA MAIL if you want your original payment method back.

I hope my bad experience prevents someone else from experiencing the same scam.

Edit: Using their return policy's logic, keep in mind that Sephora only accepts returns within 60 days. That means if you mail something back on the 50th day and it takes them 3 weeks to process the item, it will fall outside of the 60 day window, and you will not get any money back, not even store credit.

Re: Do NOT return online items via mail; it's a scam!

And also if they reject your mailed return (which happened to me, because I did not know about the changed returns policy), they do not return it back to you! They just keep it, even though I would pay the shipping cost (so long Saint Jane Luxury Beauty serum - I know a couple of friends who would have liked it)... I feel like Sephora robbed me of $125 and the serum, and in their emails, they thank me for being a loyal rouge, this is a sick joke.

Hi @ThinkLiveLearn, I'm sorry to hear that! I'd be happy to help. I am sending you a private message with more information.
