Defective gift card

I purchased a $75 gift card from cvs but as I scratched off the back the numbers came off too. I’m getting the run around on how to resolve this issue. The Sephora sales person in the store, the customer support number and the cvs customer support all say there is nothing they can do but that’s a whole $75 I spend just for the card to be defective and no way will help.

If you don’t mind sharing what happened with your issue, what happened? I’m facing a similar issue and feel so upset to potentially throw $100 down the drain.
